Man who got a free abandoned yacht from Facebook Marketplace attempts to start it and gets the shock of a lifetime

An American who landed a free yacht on Facebook Marketplace has been left totally shocked after attempting to crank the engines for the first time in more than a decade.

The vessel had been sitting in one place for 15 years until it was finally rescued from the boatyard.

Time can be brutal to anything that has an engine — and this boat had two.

Nobody expected it to start because 15 years is a very long time, but what happened next was rather interesting.

Man tries to start his new free yacht from Facebook Marketplace

Jason Morrison from the YouTube channel Rebuild Rescue saved this yacht from its misery and decided to bring it back to life.

Before we get into specifics, there’s some backstory as to how the YouTuber acquired the free yacht.

You see, he saw an ad on Facebook Marketplace for a free boat, so he drove to the location to get it.

He initially thought it was just a small sailing boat and it would be nice to own one.

However, he was shocked when he got there because it was actually a full-sized yacht.

After acquiring the yacht, Jason tried cranking its engines to figure out what needed fixing.

There was one problem, though.

Since it had been out in the open for more than a decade, it wasn’t exactly in ‘mint’ condition.

The interior was pretty messed up, and corrosion was the hardware’s biggest enemy.

All the electronics and metal inside the free yacht were more or less corroded — so even if they worked now, they would have to be replaced later.

Plus, the boat was incredibly dirty.

“We should start cleaning the whole project before we start working on it,” he said in a video posted to his YouTube.

It was probably wise.

He then proceeded to inspect both engines that lay beneath the floorboard.

One of them was in noticeably better condition than the other, appearing to have been worked on recently.

On top of that, both engines had a recent oil change and new spark plugs installed — so the yacht wasn’t totally neglected.

After Jason inspected everything thoroughly, he first tried to crank one engine.

A few attempts later, it started successfully — standing the test of time.

The other engine wasn’t as promising, though — as it refused to crank, let alone start.

It obviously needed some work done, but since one engine was working, Jason was motivated enough.

It wasn’t his first rodeo either — he once spent hours trying to start an abandoned plane.

Getting a full-blown yacht back to normal would be a task, though.

If he was building one from scratch like this couple did in their backyard, it would be a different story.
