This man bought a mystery car off of the internet for a YouTube video, and what arrived was a special variant of the Volkswagen Up that wasn’t ever sold in his country.

Well, it was a car in a small box — sort of.

You see, it arrived in several boxes, but the man claimed that it was a complete car.

So, what exactly happened here?

Man bought mystery car not sold in his country

Moog from the YouTube channel Mighty Car Mods ordered a Volkswagen Up from the UK and got it in parts.

As strange as the mystery car is, this was all intended — as was revealed in his video.

Unlike this man who never got the car he ordered online, the MCM team received the ‘right’ mystery car.

Now, Moog and his co-host Martin are based in Australia, and the VW Up sells in that country as well.

However, this model – the Up GTI – doesn’t.

The GTI variant never made it to Australia, so they decided to upgrade their existing model by using a donor car.

The Volkswagen Up GTI is the real deal

For the unware, the VW Up (and the GTI) is the automaker’s tiniest hatchback — even smaller than the feature-filled VW Golf R.

Although size isn’t one of its strengths, it’s a competent car — well, the GTI variant, at least.

Speaking about size, a company used the Up as a foundation to create a car-sized three-wheeler for teenagers in Germany.

Moreover, the GTI upgrade over the regular Volkswagen Up is more than just a performance jump.

While it does feature a turbocharged engine, there are more goodies in the GTI option.

For instance, it has a drastically different interior, including tartan seats and nicer software features.

This mystery car might not be as flashy as a supercar, but it’s certainly a fun project for these guys.

This video was posted in late 2023, and since then, their VW Up project became a lot more than it set out to be.

How big, you ask?

This mystery car project alone has 15 videos on the channel, so you can see how serious they were.

We can’t wait to see where they take it next.
