A gearhead shared the story of how he acquired his dream car to Reddit, after 20 years of longing.

He first became enamored with the Lamborghini sports car when he saw it in a video game.

That started a two decades-long dream which finally became a reality.

How a Lamborghini Gallardo became the car of this man’s dreams

It’s always nice to hear a story about somebody who got their dream car after years of waiting.

And some wait for a very long time indeed – 34 years in the case of one North Carolina man.

For another man, it was 15 years of obsessing before he finally got his hands on a Honda Beat.

But, no matter how long drivers patiently bide their time, the end result is always satisfying.

And this man, known as Mojo on Reddit, knew that better than anybody.

For him, his interest in the Lamborghini Gallardo started when he was just a child.

“When I was 8 years old, I spent countless hours playing Need for Speed: Most Wanted.

Electronic Arts

“Although I wasn’t very good and it took me a very long time over the summer. One of my favorite memories was beating Ming and winning his Lamborghini Gallardo,” he wrote in a post shared to the forum site.

But then, fate struck in a cruel way.

“Unfortunately, the very next day my Playstation 2 memory card got corrupted, and I never got to actually use it,” Mojo said.

Around the same time, he purchased a poster from a book fair, which featured the Gallardo in a ‘stunning’ Arancio Borealis finish.

This is a bright sunset orange, for those not in the know.

Whilst Mojo’s mom was annoyed that he chose a poster over a book, the Redditor didn’t mind.

“That car was the epitome of cool to me,” he recalled.

Now there’s a fitting tagline for a car.

Finally getting his perfect car after 20 years

Fast forward to the present day, and Mojo now has a Gallardo – and it’s the same spec as his childhood poster.

“I’ve driven newer supercars, e.g. the Huracan, and while they’re incredible cars, they don’t have the same raw appeal.

“The Gallardo comes from the last era when supercars still meant compromise, uncomfortable, loud, and impracticality. But that’s exactly what I wanted.

Mojo/Reddit

“With 14,022 Gallardos produced and less than 1,000 specced with gated manuals and my strict requirements. This was a hard car to find and required lots of waiting,” Mojo wrote.

How did he find the car he wanted?

“After digging into the data it appears there are less than 100 examples of this exact car worldwide.

“Once you factor in USA only cars, with more than 10,000 miles, not poorly modded or maintained, no twin turbo cars, no branded titles… It’s got to be less than 50 or even less,” he explained.

It’s evident that Mojo put in the work to get the car he’d desired for so long.

And now he has it, he’s extremely happy.

“It’s the perfect amount of speed to really wind out and not be doing excessive speeds. It feels like it revs forever. Going for a drive feels like an event.

“Extremely lucky and privileged to cross another dream car off the list,” he concluded.

Dreams don’t just come true in Disney movies, sometimes it’s a fact of life.
