A man was so impressed by a 1990 Pontiac 6000 that he left a handwritten note for its owner to let him know he wanted to buy it – but was shocked to receive a message offering the sale almost 14 years later.

The incredible story started back in 2007 when a man called John Simons spotted a burgundy-colored Pontiac 6000 SE AWD while attending Central Washington University in Ellensburg, Washington.

Simons fell in love with Pontiacs at a young age, after his grandparents bought a brand-new Pontiac Bonneville SSEi, and was smitten with the Pontiac 6000 SE AWD.

With nothing to lose, Simons decided he’d try to make contact with the owner and purchase the vehicle.

Now, we’ve seen several stories about people going above and beyond to track down a sentimental vehicle, such as the man who reunited his dad with the exact same 1968 Pontiac GTO that he sold 20 years ago, or the woman who was able to find a long-lost Chevrolet Nova Yenko belonging to her father.

However, in the case of Simons, it was his own dream car he had his sights set on and it turned out that patience paid off.

Heading through campus one day in September 2007 he decided to write a note requesting that if the Pontiac’s owner ever decided to sell the car to get in touch.

He included his email address and stuck the handwritten message on the windshield.

“I knew this was a rare car when I saw it, all those years ago, and knew it wouldn’t hurt anything leaving a note. If anything, it would show appreciation towards the owner”, Simons told Motor1.

Almost 14 years on, he received a message

By 2021, it’s likely that Simons had all but forgotten about the note he wrote almost 14 years earlier.

But it turns out that the car’s owner, a man named Dean Ross, had held onto it all those years.

Sadly, Mr Ross passed away in 2021 aged 97, but when sorting through his belongings his grandsons found the note Simons had left and decided to give it a try.

As you’d expect, Simons snapped up the Pontiac, which was still in great condition and had 107,000 miles on the odometer.

He set up an Instagram page to share updates about the car, you can check it out here.
