Man casually pops over to Florida from Germany to save $17,000 on a rare BMW M car

In a bid to save a small fortune on a rare BMW restoration, this man traveled over 5,000 miles from Germany to Florida to get his hands on a niche Z4M Roadster at a bargain price.

As a German thoroughbred, BMW cars in the US can be quite a rarity.

At least that is for the older specs that dominated the European markets, but scarcely crossed the pond.

One model, however, was made with the US in mind, and a YouTuber found that it was significantly cheaper to fly out to Florida, than to have parts shipped back to its homeland.

BMW expert saves a fortune on Z4M Roadster by flying from Germany to Florida

The BMW Z4M Roadster was a car designed heavily with the North American market in mind, as the German manufacturers first real attempts at cracking the US.

With a rather familiar look to sports cars of that era – an elongated nose and a small bubble interior similar to a Dodge Viper, Porsche 911 Carrera, and Chevrolet C6 Corvette – only 5,070 of these Roadsters were made.

Three-fifths of those set sail for the states.

YouTuber M539 Restorations – a BMW hobbyist-turned-expert – managed to get his hands on one of these precious cars.

It was originally being kept in Seattle, but he arranged to meet the seller in Florida. He also struck a bargain price of $13,000 – which is $17k less than the £30k buying price in Germany.

Upon original inspection, the car appeared to be in great condition.

As with all second-hand cars, there was a bit of wear and tear, but he soon got to grips with the mechanical elements and added some quick mods.

After replacing elements like the timing chain tensioner to stop an oil leak, brake pads, and shocks, he then added a Carbonius carbon fiber intake plenum and a new shifter.

With these tweaks, the BMW Z4M was roaring.

“Normally, at the end of these road trips to the US, I tend to sell the cars. But not this one. This one is coming back to Germany,” he said.

“It’s just beautiful.”

While he was there, he also lent a hand to another Florida man meandering through a BMW M3 restoration.

“Plugging two oil leaks with one socket,” he joked.
