This man bought the cheapest Mercedes V8 AMG in the UK.
Instead of paying the recommended price of $19,000, he got it for around $5,500.
And in a classic case of ‘you get what you pay for’, this car comes with myriad problems.
Not only does he want to restore this car, but he’s also aiming for his Mercedes to produce 600HP.

Buying the cheapest Mercedes V8 AMG in the world
Edwin Klinkenberg and his team are used to taking risks on cheap cars.
They’re the same crew who spent months fixing up the cheapest Porsche 911 in the world, without any luck.
Instead of taking on an easy win, they set their sights on reviving the cheapest 2005 Mercedes V8 AMG they could find in the UK.
Edwin’s usually a BMW fan, but wanted to try and find a Mercedes-Benz to use as his winter driver.
These usually go for just under $20,000, but the YouTuber managed to haggle the price down to $5,577.
He realized pretty quickly that there was a reason for the car’s low price tag.
On the outside, the car was rusty but otherwise looked to be in good condition.
But several major issues soon made themselves clear, from doors that wouldn’t open to a horrible sound coming from the exhaust.
Rescue mission for the AMG
The silver car is a 2005 C55 AMG with 160,000 miles on the clock.
Its naturally aspirated 5.4-liter V8 engine produced 360HP, but Klinkenberg is hoping to almost double that.
After fixing the child-locked doors, polishing the headlights, and changing the car’s oil for the first time in years, it was time to tackle the exhaust.
The biggest job was to replace the car’s headers with long tube headers, which would make the AMG 30 percent more efficient.
The only problem was that Edwin had ordered headers for a left-hand drive model, which the Mercedes was not.
After spending days heating the exhaust kit to a glowing red, hammering it, and trying to reshape them to the right-hand drive model, the crew realized it was time to give up.
And by ‘give up’, we mean take it to the professionals.
They custom fabricated a new pipe that would make the eBay exhaust kit fit the AMG perfectly.
Taken to the road, the Mercedes seemed to ride nicely and was no longer producing an unnerving sound.
Whether Edwin’s dreams of getting the AMG up to 600HP will be realized remains to be seen.
