This man bought a cheap C6 Chevy Corvette that had been through seven owners from Facebook Marketplace with some hope of restoring it, but he kept running into problems.

One of the biggest problems was that it was stuck in limp mode, and despite his best efforts, he couldn’t change it.

Now, a car that has been through more than a handful of owners can be quite risky, but it’s not too bad if you have the time to invest.

Colin Stein not only had the time, but he desperately wanted it for a few reasons.

Colin Stein from the YouTube channel SteinFab Garage bought this C6 Chevy Corvette from Facebook Marketplace for two reasons.

‘Because it has a red interior and a manual transmission,” he said in the video.

While that’s perfectly fine reasoning for getting an old ‘Vette, this car certainly had seen better days.

Apart from a beat-up exterior, damaged doors and windows, and missing parts, its biggest problem was that it was stuck in limp mode.

Limp mode is a security feature that limits the speed and throttle — making the vehicle undriveable.

An easy solution to fix that, according to Colin, would have been to replace the gas pedal or the throttle body if it comes to that.

He replaced both, but all that effort didn’t do anything — the C6 Corvette was still limping.

Things weren’t looking any better, so he spent five hours clearing all the error codes and rewiring most of the electronics.

Despite all that work, the engine still struggled and there was no sign of the limp mode going away.

This was the point when Colin decided to divert his attention to the other problems and successfully got the power doors and one window working.

That, however, was the only good part.

Colin found this Corvette had misaligned fenders and door panels, and one of its windows also fell off on its own.

But with the help of a friend, he found that an OEM throttle body from GM should get it off limp mode.

The guys got one, but it was faulty — so they had to send it back.

All in all, this restoration had bad luck written all over it.

Facebook Marketplace finds are a mixed bag, if anything.

Some people get lucky, and this man who scored a free yacht is one of them.

Meanwhile, another owner of a 200,000-mile Dodge Charger regretted buying it because of all the issues that came with it.

Even a totaled Corvette — like the one that had a secret under the hood — can be a great purchase, but it all depends on your luck.
