This man bought a Pontiac Firebird sight unseen, hoping to restore it, but what he found in the backseat was telling.
A eBay seller in Powell, Tennessee, sold the car for $6,500.
On the whole, the car is in pretty solid shape.
But what’s sitting in the car’s backseat says a lot about its history – or lack thereof.

The Pontiac Firebird with a telling backseat
Pontiac Firebirds are a special breed of car, but they do have a habit of turning up in strange places.
We’ve seen them left in fields for 21 years or rotting in the woods for 20 years.
But those are rookie numbers compared to the one that was in a barn for 40 years.
Because there’s so many of them, we can’t always expect them to turn up in tip-top shape.
One Firebird that recently sold on eBay was certainly a case of that.
Rust had covered large portions of its body, and the interior wasn’t looking too fresh either.
Saying that, we’ve seen a lot worse in terms of eBay cars.

Despite the rust, the Firebird’s body was still relatively stable.
“The body is very solid, especially the quarter panels – an excellent starting point for a restoration or custom build.
“The car has been sitting since I got it last year, and I’ve never tried to start it. Assume it will need mechanical work,” the seller said of the car’s condition.
But what’s sitting on the car’s backseat gives some indication of how little this car has been used.
“It has glass bottles over 30 years old in the backseat, so it’s been sitting awhile,” the seller wrote.
Those are some seriously old bottles.
Why was this car sold?
So you may be wondering why this Pontiac was ultimately sold.
Sure, it had some problems but it wasn’t beyond saving.
“I’m only selling because I’ve got too many projects and not enough time. Clean Tennessee title is in my name,” the seller admitted.
So there you have it.
Somebody scooped it up anyhow, and here’s hoping they can bring it back to fighting form.
