Magic Johnson and his whole family cruised the Mediterranean on a $1m-a-week superyacht powered by cooking oil, and it looked so fun.

One of the greatest NBA players ever decided to charter ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s superyacht, Whisper, for a magical vacation.

Putting the ‘magic’ in ‘magical vacation’, the amazing superyacht stopped over in Sète, France, and will next be visiting St. Tropez.

As well as being the height of luxury, Whisper is also very eco-friendly. It uses a whopping 80,000 liters of cooking oil to create a Mediterranean adventure fit for an all-star.

The NBA all-star Magic Johnson lived up to his nickname by posting some truly magical family vacation pics on Instagram.

It wasn’t just any old vacation, though; it was a Mediterranean cruise on ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt’s superyacht, Whisper.

Last weekend, the Johnsons stopped over in Sète, France, and are now heading to the billionaire paradise of St. Tropez.

While Whisper is gorgeous both inside and out, it’s how it runs that’s notable. That’s because it embraces an eco-friendly philosophy in the form of being a superyacht powered by cooking oil instead of traditional fuel.

More like a bang than a Whisper

Being so ornate and so good for the environment comes with a high price tag. But you get a lot of bang for your buck when it comes to the 312‑foot superyacht powered by cooking oil.

Whisper costs a whopping $1 million a week to charter, but for an all-star such as the magic man, it’s peanuts compared to his $1.5 billion net worth.

For their $1 million a week, the Johnsons get an on-board disco called Club 32, a multi-level mosaic swimming pool, and even a sweeping spiral staircase to a living room more akin to a piano bar.

At Sète, Whisper took on 80,000 liters of cooking oil, being filled to capacity with the biofuel and thus reducing CO2 emissions by 90 percent compared to running on diesel.

Up to 12 guests can sleep in seven ornate cabins and take advantage of the gym, cinema room, and three lounge and dining areas.

Of course, this is the man who won five NBA Championships with the LA Lakers. So he’s going to be using the vast foredeck for its secondary purpose as a private basketball court.

It seems right to see the magic man shooting hoops on the deck of a vast yacht, showing us how he got the money to afford a magical vacation like this in the first place.
