Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department now has the first Tesla Cybertruck fleet in the United States after buying 10 trucks.

It will be the largest fleet of Tesla Cybertrucks in the whole of the country.

The force said the Cybertrucks will help to keep its officers ‘safe no matter what’ thanks to the truck’s super-strong bodywork.

Sheriff Kevin McMahill said the vehicles will also be ‘a tremendous recruitment tool’.

Police forces across the globe have been adding beefed-up motors to their fleets.

Dubai Police has a Mansory P720 and McLaren Artura within its elite supercar fleet.

Back in September, The Irvine Police Department, in California, bought – and modified – a Cybertruck for its fleet.

Now, Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) has added an entire fleet of Cybertrucks, including a specially fitted SWAT vehicle.

Speaking to FOX5, Sheriff McMahill said the fleet of trucks hadn’t come out of the force’s budget.

“And they didn’t come out of our budget again, they came out of a very generation donation from an individual,” he told the outlet.

The Sheriff was quick to heap praise on the Cybertruck, touting the safety the vehicles can provide – we’ve previously seen just how tough the trucks are after a YouTuber attempted to damage one with a baseball bat.

“I will tell you, we want these things because the cops inside will be safe no matter what,” Sheriff McMahill said.

“These stop bullets.”

LVMPD has shared a couple of renderings showing how the finished Cybertrucks will look.

The SWAT-modified vehicle is finished in a khaki color and has new, aftermarket wheels with huge tires designed to tackle tough terrains.

It also looks as though it will be kitted out with new reinforced armored doors and windows as well as custom bumpers.

The regular LVMPD Cybertrucks look more like designs we’ve seen from other police forces, featuring flashing light bars, LED spotlights, and custom wheels.

“Imagine when we’re out and we’re charging these things, and officers will be approached by people from all over the community to see this thing,” McMahil continued.

“It’s an opportunity [to] inject humanity, to increase our community partnerships. This is also a tremendous recruitment tool.”
