Kawasaki has unveiled a futuristic twist on personal mobility: a four-legged robot named CORLEO, which designed to let you ride like a horse.
It was recent unveiled at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai, as part of Kawasaki’s ‘Future City’ exhibit.
Unlike traditional vehicles, CORLEO uses weight-shift controls, offering a horseback-like riding experience over rough terrain.
And instead of gasoline or batteries, it’s powered by hydrogen, signaling Kawasaki’s commitment to a greener future.

This four-legged robot runs on hydrogen
This unusual vehicle is more than just an attention-grabbing concept.
CORLEO blends Kawasaki’s mastery in motorcycle engineering and robotics, allowing riders to traverse rugged terrain, from rocky mountain paths to shallow water crossings, with stability and ease.
Its design features independent front and rear leg movement, inspired by motorcycle swingarms, which help absorb shocks while keeping the rider in a forward-leaning position to scan the environment.
Even a beginner can confidently ride on CORLEO, thanks to machine-assisted balance and control support.
Instead of relying on traditional fuel, it runs on hydrogen, stored in canisters inside its rear legs.
That hydrogen is used to generate electricity through a hydrogen engine located in its front legs.
This not only reduces emissions but also shows how clean energy technologies can power next-generation transport.
Visitors to the expo saw the CORLEO in action, performing various poses to showcase its dynamic leg movements and mechanical grace.
Robots are the future
CORLEO is certainly futuristic, but it remains questionable how feasible this concept actually is.
On one hand, four-legged robots like Spot from Boston Dynamics are already protecting Pompeii, and US Marines have already begun testing a robot dog with rifles attached to its back.
However, none of these robots have the ability to carry a human safely, at least for now.
The good news is, CORLEO is only a prototype, meant to be fully operational in 2050.
While it’s not quite there yet, it has the potential to revolutionize transportation in the future.
