Later today, Katy Perry is set to fly into space as part of the first all-female crew in more than 60 years.

The 40-year-old singer will be one of six women onboard the Blue Origin rocket blasting into space.

Blue Origin is a space technology company founded by Jeff Bezos, and its reusable self-driving rocket will be launched from a site in Texas.

The rocket is expected to reach a maximum height of 62 miles, but the women onboard will not technically be classed as astronauts by the Federal Aviation Administration, NASA, or the US military.

We’ve seen a lot of cool stuff when it comes to celebrities.

Usually, it’ll be something car-related – like Travis Scott’s Lamborghini collection, or Dolly Parton’s famous Cadillac.

But sometimes they generate headlines for something a little less conventional, as was the case when Will Smith had a street named after him.

But that’s nothing on what Katy Perry has been up to lately.

Perry will be joining a team of six women in the New Shepard rocket.

Sharing the capsule with her will be Bezos’s fiancée Lauren Sánchez, newsreader Gayle King, activist Amanda Nguyen, rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.

No pilots are required on the self-flying rocket, and the crew themselves will not be operating the vehicle during the launch.

Once the flight is complete, the capsule will return to Earth with a parachute-assisted soft landing.

The rocket booster itself will land itself two miles from its launching point.

This will be the first all-female spaceflight in over 60 years.

Russian astronaut Valentina Tereshkova was the first woman to take part in a spaceflight when she headed into space in 1963 aboard the Vostok 6.

How is the singer feeling about her big moment – hot or cold?

As you might expect, the hit maker has been very excited about the prospect of adding ‘spacewoman’ to her resume.

In a social media post, she gushed: “If you had told me that I would be part of the first-ever all-female crew in space, I would have believed you.

“Nothing was beyond my imagination as a child. Although we didn’t grow up with much, I never stopped looking at the world with hopeful WONDER!”

In a video shared to her Instagram, Perry reflected on how she was feeling ahead of the momentous occasion.

“It’s one day before I get to go to space,” she told her 200 million followers.

“I think if you know me, you know that I’m always looking for little confirmations from the heavens, from my guides, from my angels, from my higher self.

“When I ask for it, and I’m open to it, it’s pretty loud.

“When I was invited to come on this voyage, I looked up the capsule and the capsule on the very front of it is the outline in the shape of a feather.

“And it was a total confirmation – my mom has always called me feather.”

Perry, along with the other astronauts, had to undergo comprehensive training, as was US law.

This included a focus on physical fitness, emergency protocols, and procedures for zero gravity.

But it wasn’t just the shape of the capsule that gave Perry good feelings about the mission.

The capsule’s name was Tortoise.

Perry explained: “A wave – just the most energetic wave just shot through my body.

“My mom calls me two nicknames – feather and tortoise.

“What are the chances?”

It’ll be a historic moment, and one that she’ll always remember.

NASA, the Federal Aviation Administration Administration, and the US military won’t recognize them as astronauts however, as they all have different eligibility requirements.

Not that this will damper the experience of going to space, mind you.

Here’s hoping she doesn’t see anything extraterrestrial up there.

So foreign, it’s supernatural….

Notice how long it took until we made a reference to E.T?
