Audi’s marquee model made massive waves when it hit the streets in 2006.
It was renowned for it’s power delivery, as well as it’s superb handling ability.
And now, one YouTuber has bought an R8 for less than a Toyota Camry.

Kansas man buys Iron Man’s Audi R8
In case you missed it, we at Supercar Blondie recently covered the story of a Kansas man who bought a special R8.
This is no ordinary R8. In fact, it’s the ‘Iron Man’ spec Audi R8 – the one driven by Tony Stark himself.
You will definitely have seen it before: silver with carbon side blades; 4.2 FSI V8. A thing of absolute beauty.
Tyler Hoover, who runs the YouTube channel Hoovies Garage, recently purchased an Iron Man spec R8 whilst on vacation in Scottsdale, Arizona.
He noted that he purchased the supercar for ‘less than the cost of a brand new Toyota Camry.’
Whilst knowing that his new R8 came with some issues, it drove very nicely.
Now, Tyler has had the chance to properly examine the car – and there’s a reason that it came so cheap.
Tyler’s R8 has some secrets under the surface
The first major concern that crosses Tyler’s mind is that of potential frame cracks.
Obviously, this would be major bad news, because the entire structural integrity of the R8 would now be at risk.
Thankfully, the inspection shows that the frame is in very good condition. Score one for the R8.
Next, Tyler turns his attention back to the main issue – the oil leak.
Nothing is visible or obvious from viewing the engine bay itself.
After running some diagnostic checks, Tyler’s fears are confirmed – the oil leak is there. It appears to be coming from a faulty O-ring.
Alongside the oil leak, there is also a coolant leak that becomes visible as well.
The simplest repair solution appears to be fixing the coolant pipe with a JB weld, as well as replacing the brake pads and old rotors.

Now, we get to the business end of the video – the cost of repairs.
Initially, it actually goes better than expected.
The front brakes getting fixed cost around $1,100. The oil leak/O-ring can be fixed for another $500.
The coolant pipe can be fixed with a piece of rubber hose and some clamps for $200.
So far, it seems like Tyler’s R8 is doing pretty good, right?
Well, this is where the smile becomes a shocked frown.
Remember that engine warning light that wouldn’t go away? Well, that’s a catalytic converter issue.
The catalytic converter is going to cost $5-6,000 – around 26 hours of manpower.
Ultimately though, Tyler decides he can live with the engine warning light, and opts to not have the catalytic converter replaced.
Tyler ends his video by saying that, although he got caught with the hot potato, he’s the happiest guy in the world.
He said that he’s content to enjoy his R8 the way it is, outside of the leaks and brakes getting fixed.
