Pictures of the Bülk Distance Velomobile give very little away as to what the vehicle actually is.

What looks like an interestingly styled car is actually a velomobile, from a company famed for long-distance cycling.

Its streamlined design will help it cut through the air, and it could be a possible alternative to cars for inner city travel and certain work commutes.

Bülk has evolved the Distance from its earlier Mk1 model, and as it relies on human power, there’s no environmental impact from it’s use.

Why the Bülk Distance Velomobile was created

Bülk created the Distance to provide a more sustainable vehicle for people to get around in.

Demand for cleaner and smarter transportation is higher than ever before.

That’s thanks to concerns about climate change and the health of the planet.

The company has said it is a ‘high-performance velomobile‘, engineered for longer-distance cycling.

Which is why it has the name Distance.

It is a striking-looking vehicle, with a tadpole-trike design.

The enclosed cabin is also designed for maximum aerodynamic effiency.

An advantage it has over conventional cycles is that the cabin protects the user from bad weather and collisions.

In addition, as it relies on human power, there’s no need to recharge or refuel the velomobile.

Bülk evolved the Distance from an earlier design

The Bülk Distance has evolved from their earlier Mk1 velomobile, but there are a few differences between the two.

The body is now much more aerodynamic, with Computational Fluid Dynamics aiding in that process.

While it sounds perfect for inner city use, the company says its tighter turning circles make it better suited for open road environments.

Velomobile World

Top speeds are impressive, with the Distance able to reach a speed of 31MPH.

It’s also light, weighing in at a very low 55LBS.

Despite the larger turning radius, its small size does make it ideal for inner city streets and smaller parking spots.

Should you wish to buy one, the Romanian company is charging $13,900 for the Distance.

With the world looking at emissions-free vehicles more closely, the Distance could be right up some people’s streets.
