Cars are used in all walks of life, even incredibly significant religious ones.

In the Vatican, all eyes are on the newest Pope, who was recently elected – His Holiness Pope Leo XIV.

He assumed power in the Catholic Church this month, shortly after the death of his predecessor, Pope Francis.

Pope Francis was known for his affinity for cars and continued to drive a small, humble vehicle despite receiving a Lamborghini Huracán.

Plus, one of the coolest moments in car history involved Pope John Paul II and a Ferrari Mondial.

But the new Popemobile that Leo XIV will likely be riding is certainly set to impress.

The vehicle in question is the Mercedes-Benz G580, and the car runs on a powerful chassis.

Of course, the vehicle isn’t a standard electric vehicle and has been modified for the Pope to use in various circumstances.

According to Mercedes itself, the EV was ‘adapted to fully utilise the advantages of the four near-wheel motors for the special purpose of slow journeys at public appearances’.

The classic exterior has been altered to include elements such as an adjustable back seat for ease.

There is also a separate hardtop in case of bad weather.

“The left rear door was removed and rebuilt by the specialists – in traditional coachbuilding style – from a single piece and seamlessly welded into the bodyshell,” stated Mercedes-Benz.

Plus, like previous Popemobiles offered to the religious figure, it’s also painted in ‘classic white pearl’.

In terms of the cabin, there is a swivelling main seat that ‘makes it possible to move around flexibly and address an audience from different angles’, with an additional two singular seats behind for any other passengers that need to travel in style alongside the religious figure.

The electric vehicle is sure to turn heads during parades.

Only time will tell when Pope Leo XIV will take the seat.
