The brand-new cars are all sitting idle at Australia’s port of Melbourne.

Some critics say the “car graveyard” indicates a slowdown in EV sales in Australia.

However, some industry experts say it could be great news for buyers.

According to some industry experts, hundreds of Tesla EVs sitting at a port in Australia are a good sign.

It demonstrates the country’s emergence as a significant player in the global market for EVs.

It’s not the first time we have seen hundreds of Tesla cars abandoned in seemingly weird places.

According to a Tesla employee, the company rents places like these to store their cars as delivery centers often don’t have enough space.

Experts also believe that Australian drivers will soon benefit from a price war between car companies.

Unlike the US, the island country is a key target for Chinese automakers facing tariffs in other parts of the world.

Rise in competition

Previously these vehicles were difficult to obtain, with deliveries taking months instead of weeks.

“With Teslas today, you put an order in and you’ll get your model faster than you can fill out the paperwork because they’ve got them in the country and inventory is now readily available,” Tesla Owners Club of Australia national president Peter Thorne said.

Fortunately, with the rise in competition, Tesla has also cut prices on most of its models.

However, even with these price cuts the US-based company will likely face strong competition from BYD.

The Chinese automaker also overtook Tesla as the top EV maker in 2023.

And in 2024, you can buy also a BYD in just about any country where you can buy a Tesla.
