Hundreds of Teslas spotted in abandoned mall’s parking lot in Missouri, and the number of cars keeps growing

Hundreds of Teslas, mostly Tesla Cybertrucks, have been spotted outside an abandoned mall in Missouri.

No one knows for sure why they’re there, but many are saying it’s because Tesla isn’t selling cars as fast as it would like.

Something similar recently happened in Detroit as well.

But there’s something some might people might have missed.

Hundreds of Teslas, including dozens of Tesla Cybertrucks, were spotted outside an abandoned mall in Missouri.

These cars were apparently left there to collect dust simply because Tesla can’t sell them fast enough, and because dealerships aren’t big enough to accommodate all of the unsold cars.

Tesla had a similar situation in Detroit earlier this year.

The first thing worth pointing out is that even though these images and videos is going viral now, the original clip shared by Fox 2 is actually from over a year ago.

The second thing worth noting is that Tesla was doing something it was perfectly entitled to do.

Speaking to Fox 2, Senior VP at The Staenberg Group Tim Lowe explained why.

“Tesla has a short-term lease to park Tesla cars at Chesterfield Mall in Missouri. We relocated them to the Dillard’s parcel when we started mall demolition,” Lowe said.

A lot of people are saying Tesla is resorting to using parking lots and malls because Teslas, especially Tesla Cybertrucks, aren’t selling as well as they used to.

But three things can be true at once.

First, it is true that Tesla is no longer dominating the EV market in the same way it used to, with brands like BYD and Xiaomi catching up fast.

Second, it is true that Tesla sales are lower than they were last year.

This is arguably partly due to the fact that Tesla’s line-up is small and aging.

The Model 3 and Model Y are new-ish, but both the Model X and Model S have been around for over a decade, and people don’t appear to be buying them anymore.

Tesla did update both models earlier this month, but it’s going to take a couple of months to see whether that boosts sales or not.

Tesla

The third thing to consider is that Tesla is still the best-selling EV brand in the U.S., even though the margin between the first brand on the list, Tesla, and the second brand on the list, Ford with the Mustang Mach-E, is not as wide as before.
