Ferrari is reportedly postponing its second EV until 2028 because of a lack of demand

Ferrari is reportedly pushing back its second electric vehicle, or EV, to 2028 at the very earliest.

The Italy-based company is set to launch its first EV in the Spring of 2026. This makes it one of the most historic and exciting times in the company’s history.

But we might have to wait at least another two years before its second EV hits the market.

The marque is keeping details of both under wraps for now. But it should take the covers off its first electric car during the fall of 2025.

This second Ferrari EV was set to launch in 2026 as well, quickly following on from its first all-electric product.

But various reports, including one from Reuters, state that this second electric Prancing Horse will instead come in 2028 at the earliest, if not later.

Some of this may come from the lack of demand for any kind of electric Ferrari.

Ferrari

Most of the company’s customers want an Italian sports car or supercar with a combustion engine under the hood, be it naturally aspirated or turbocharged.

Reuters has reported that an unnamed source states there is no customer interest in an electric sports car from the Italian company.

Yet with so many other companies creating EVs, and with the automotive world moving toward electric, Ferrari has almost been forced into doing so.

Its first EV is set to be a low-volume model, in order for the company to put a tick in the EV box.

But the second electric vehicle should be more of a high-volume production car instead.

The delay in producing the second car could be good news for Ferrari.

This allows the marque to do more research and development, and assess the reaction and reception to its first electric product.

We have already seen Ferrari enter the hybrid segment, thanks to the SF90 Stradale supercar.

Ferrari

Some have speculated that at least one of the electric cars will be a sports car or supercar.

The other could be an SUV similar to the Purosangue.

But that is pure speculation

Italy’s most famous brand is keeping all key points hidden from the public and motoring press.

That will only make it more fascinating when the cars are finally shown to the world.
