The Diablo is quite the road runner

The Lamborghini supercar is quite the catch with many famous petrol heads snapping one up.

In fact – and we bet you won’t be expecting this – President Trump himself even had a one-off custom Diablo Roadster made in 1997 and painted in Blu Le Mans.

It does however seem that the cars carry quite the substantial price tag, so, motoring fans are keen to snap up replicas instead.

For instance, this guy bought a blue Lamborghini Diablo VT Roadster replica built on a custom tube chassis, and these guys flew to Seattle to buy a fake Diablo off Craigslist.

But, just wait until you see this replica and the reactions to it at this car meet.

The fake Lamborghini Diablo was actually a five-month passion project

The car was quite the DIY master project after the shell was originally found in a barn.

In fact, it’s sat on a BMW E36 chassis, and underneath the hood lies something special.

This ‘drift car’ is powered by a 13B turbo rotary motor that’s small but incredibly powerful.

He wanted his creation to go up against the big guns at a car meet

The car meet was held in Melbourne, Australia, and it was packed, to put it mildly.

The creator himself said that were ‘so many people you could hardly move’.

So naturally, to show off the fake Lambo they aimed to go ‘smack bang centre of the supercars,’ next to the real deal.

Thanks to its striking look, the replica quickly caught the gearheads’ attention.

“To our surprise it quickly became one of the most popular cars in the area,” the content creator said.

The reactions were a mixed bag

Mike Lake

The replica mainly raised bewildered questions, like, ‘What is that?’, ‘What engine is this?’ and ‘What? Rotary?’

The most entertaining, though? ‘They’ve got the engine in the wrong place’.

Back in it’s prime the Lamborghini Diablo was an ‘it girl’

Did you know that when the car went off sale in 2001 it was actually the best selling Lamborghini ever? Because it absolutely was.

The fake version here, however, includes features like a rear bumper – cue the eyebrow raises – and LED headlights so street cruising is an option with the vehicle.

It’s color scheme though?

Well, just take a look and catch up with the car meet mayhem below.
