Tesla owns the largest charging network in the United States with more than 2,500 Supercharger stations.

While this is great news for Tesla owners, those who drive a non-Tesla EV can struggle when it comes to Superchargers.

But now this handy extension cord is set to make things a whole lot easier.

Using a Supercharger can be a struggle for non-Tesla owners

One of the main benefits of going for an EV over a gas-powered vehicle is the cost and relative ease of ‘filling up’.

Plenty of happy EV owners have taken to social media to reveal how much they’ve saved since making the switch, such as this Cybertruck owner, while others have praised how convenient it is to charge overnight.

However, things can quickly become a whole lot less easy for some motorists who have to charge while on the go.

Alongside dealing with range anxiety, non-Tesla owners can also have a bit of a fight on their hands when it comes to using Superchargers.

Supercharger units come with relatively small cables, which are great for vehicles that have rear left charging ports, like Tesla models, but not so great for other manufacturers.

This means that when owners of non-Tesla EVs need to use a Supercharger they have to park at an odd angle and sometimes are even forced to take up two spots, which isn’t going to make them very popular with other motorists.

“Certain Supercharger site layouts may not be suitable for some vehicles,” Tesla warns on its site.

“Do not obstruct other vehicles by parking over the lines if the cable cannot comfortably reach your vehicle.”

But this EV charger extension cord could be the answer

As a solution, EV charging equipment company A2Z has come up with a super-sized extension cord that can be used with Superchargers.

The cord comes with a North American Charging Standard (NACS) pins, so if the EV in question features a CCS port you’ll need to get another adapter to use alongside it.

The cables, which are yet to go on sale, come with numerous safety features including temperature monitoring and power management, an active locking mechanism, and temperature sensor switches.

The State of Charge YouTube channel recently tested out the A2Z’s prototype with a Rivian R1S at both a Level 2 home charger and a Supercharger and it worked perfectly for both.

A2Z told Inside EVs it will begin a testing program for a select number of drivers next month, with plans for a full launch in the summer.
