A Tesla Cybertruck owner in California accidentally tested out how water-proof the truck really is, after he fully submerged it in a harbor while attempting to launch a jet ski.

The unnamed driver of the Cybertruck was at the Ventura Harbor in California when – for reasons unclear – he ended up sliding the EV into the water.

The owner of the Cybertruck had been attempting to launch a jet ski into the water when things took a dramatic turn.

A rescue team had to be called out to haul the truck up from the harbor.

The Cybertruck became completely submerged

When the Cybertruck was initially launched, Tesla made some bold claims about the vehicle’s capabilities.

As well as touting it as virtually indestructible, Tesla boss Elon Musk said it could function as a boat, if required.

ABC7

“Cybertruck will be waterproof enough to serve briefly as a boat, so it can cross rivers, lakes and even seas that aren’t too choppy,” he said in 2022.

Since then, we’ve seen what happens when a baseball bat meets a Cybertruck and have seen how it handles water-logged roads.

However, the owner of this Cybertruck inadvertently took things a step further after plunging the EV into Ventura Harbor.

The fire battalion chief told ABC 7 that the owner had been trying to launch a jet ski when things went terribly wrong and the truck ended up in the water.

The truck was completely submerged by the time the rescue team arrived.

A diver was sent down to help rescue the EV

To get the Cybertruck out, a diver had to be sent down into the water where he attached a tow rope to it.

The other end of the tow rope was attached to a truck and the EV was slowly dredged up out of the water.

Footage shared with the news outlet showed water pouring from the truck as it was brought back onto dry land.

At this point, it’s not clear what damage the vehicle sustained.

However, images from the incident show that the driver’s side window was open at the time, so it’s likely it will need a decent clean and to be thoroughly dried out at the very least.

Thankfully, authorities confirmed no one was on board at the time, and no one was injured.
