Electric vehicles are quieter than combustion cars, but one is too quiet, as Dodge recalls its Charger EV muscle car due to it being too quiet.

While an EV can be very quiet, they are not allowed by law to be completely silent.

Pedestrians and other road users need to hear them. This could help to avoid accidents and stop anyone from being hit by a car that surprises them.

But the Charger EV is altogether too quiet, and the American manufacturer has now been told to pump up the volume on the electric muscle car.

How quiet is the Dodge Charger EV?

The Dodge Charger EV was launched in 2024.

It is the world’s first fully electric muscle car to reach mass production.

As the notice has shown, the manufacturer has recalled all Charger Daytona EVs produced between April 30th, 2024, and March 28th, 2025.

According to the notice, the cars have amps that have an ‘incomplete software upload.’

What that’s done is create the absence of any exterior noise.

This means the Dodge is almost silent as it cruises along the roads.

Investigation of the problem began in April 2025.

Engineers and suppliers looked over all sorts of data to reach a conclusion.

Affected owners will be contacted about their Dodge Recalls

The company will begin contacting customers around July 10th to notify them that they need to bring their car in.

Should a customer’s car need recalling, it means it no longer complies with the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

Following this, the dealership will then inspect the vehicle.

They will then update the amplifier software to ensure it now makes a sound.

It’s ironic that the car’s silence has caused the Charger Daytona to be recalled, as it’s that exact lack of noise that made it so polarizing.

Dodge

Dodge replaced its V8-powered Charger with the Daytona EV, but there are rumors the Hemi V8 may yet return to the lineup.

Hopefully, for the sake of its customers, they can sort out this unusual noise issue with the Charger EV as soon as possible.
