Despite being worth millions, golfer Scottie Scheffler was driving a very surprising car until last year

Despite being worth millions, golfer Scottie Scheffler was driving a very surprising car up until last year.

The two-two Masters champion made use of a 2012 GMC Yukon XL for many years.

He racked up 184,000 miles in the car over the years.

And the GMC Yukon XL recently went up for auction, selling for a hefty price.

Celebrities are known for having lavish cars, but sometimes their vehicles can surprise us.

Will Smith once revealed that his first car was a red Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z, which is very ’80s.

For Arnold Schwarzenegger, his first car is a source of amusement even after all these years.

But golfer Scottie Scheffler’s previous set of wheels was the 2012 GMC Yukon XL.

Heritage Auctions

The Kelley Blue Book puts the resale of this car at $8,571, which isn’t a whole lot.

And given that this car has 184,000 miles on the clock, that’s not going to make it any more valuable.

Even if it has been driven all over the United States, a high-mileage car is not the top of any prospective buyer’s wish list.

But with this Yukon XL belonging to a pro-golfer like Scheffler, it’s no surprise that it had a starting bid of $50,000.

Proceeds from the auction, which washandled by Heritage Auctions, will go to the Triumph Over Kid Cancer charity.

The car was bought back in 2012, as Scheffler’s family was traveling to that year’s Masters with the golfer’s high school golf team.

When their original car broke down, they purchased the Yukon XL at a GM dealership in Augusta, Georgia.

The car became Scheffler’s in 2018 when he turned pro – he then drove it around the US for the next five years as his career advanced.

When he decided to put the car into retirement in 2024, his dad suggested that it go up for auction to benefit Triumph Over Kid Cancer.

The charity had been started by the family of an old junior golf friend who passed away due to a rare form of bone cancer.

“Nantz and I were doing a thing in Houston for an organization we both love,” Scheffler said during an interview.

“A dear friend of ours, James Ragan, started a foundation called Triumph Over Kid Cancer. We were doing a Q & A session, there was a live auction after, and Jim decided he wanted to get involved in the live auction.”

The Jim he’s referring to is CBS Sports broadcaster Jim Nantz, who placed the opening bid of $50,000.

Dan Patrick Show

“I’ll be more than happy to store Scottie’s car in my garage,” Nantz remarked before his big win.

Once he secured the car, he sent a cheeky text to Golfweek.

“I figure just driving his SUV to the golf course should lower my handicap by at least five shots.”

The car went to a good home, and $50,000 was raised for a good cause.

That’s a hole-in-one in our book.
