DeLorean DMC-12 on Facebook Marketplace in Arizona has a price that reflects its condition

The DeLorean DMC-12 is a car that is as iconic as it is controversial.

It played a starring role in one of the most famous film series of the 1980s.

And one has recently come up for sale on Facebook Marketplace.

But the price being asked very much reflects its current condition.

The DeLorean DMC-12 is a car with an amazing origin story.

It was conceived as the brainchild of legendary executive John DeLorean.

John made his name as an executive at General Motors (GM).

He rapidly rose through the ranks, and was offered the chance to run any of GM’s five divisions.

DeLorean chose Pontiac, where he created the iconic GTO.

He took his talents across the building to Chevrolet, where he came up with the Nova.

1973 saw the world engulfed in an Oil crisis – and America’s car industry was right in the epicentre.

At that crucial point, John DeLorean shockingly announced that he was leaving GM to start the DeLorean Motor Company.

The now-iconic DMC-12 was manufactured just outside Belfast, Northern Ireland.

Despite the hype, the car, unfortunately, never delivered anywhere close to expectations.

By 1982, things were extremely bleak for DeLorean and his company.

The factory was placed in receivership, DMC was $175 million in debt, and the founder was eventually arrested on cocaine smuggling charges.

However, the DMC-12 became a silver screen icon in 1985 thanks to Back to the Future.

The legendary film trilogy, with Michael J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd, heavily features the car.

In the film, Doc Emmett Brown conducts a time travel experiment with his dog, Einstein.

And the car he uses is the now-legendary DMC-12.

Marty eventually uses the DMC-12 to travel back in time to 1955 and then to get back to 1985, before traveling into the future, and heading way back into history.

But recently, a truly stunning example – perhaps better than the original – came up on the internet.

It has appeared for sale on Facebook Marketplace, and was recently serviced by DMC themselves.

For a car built in the 1980s, it has driven just 18,000 miles from new.

The interior and exterior are both in sublime condition, as are the wheels and the engine.

The original floor mats and a car cover are also included in the sale.

Because only 9,000 were built, the car doesn’t exactly come cheap.

In fact, this particular DMC-12 is currently advertised for $72,500.

If it comes with a flux capacitor and it hits 88MPH, it could be a hell of a buy.
