It took less than a day, but the wait still felt like a lifetime.

The 51-year-old former executive took to Instagram to write a long post to address what happened.

And now F1 fans have even more questions than before.

What Christian Horner said

The now former Red Bull F1 team principal Christian Horner was sacked in the morning of July 9, but he waited a few hours to release his own statement.

Horner took to Instagram to write a long post in which he essentially thanked everyone and also reminded everyone of what they achieved.

“It’s been an honor to be part of this incredible era of motorsport. I leave with immense pride in what we’ve achieved,” he wrote, before listing the titles Red Bull won.

The list is quite long and it includes, among other things, 124 GP wins and 8 drivers’ championships.

We still don’t know what happened behind the scenes, and we’ll probably never find out.

Crucially, we also still don’t know what’s going to happen next.

Red Bull F1 has already gone through relatively unsuccessful periods in the past, for example between 2014 and 2020, but that was mostly due to Mercedes’ dominance because back then Mercedes cars were just unbeatable.

This time, it feels different, and it feels like Red Bull is currently trailing behind McLaren because things are changing behind the scenes and Red Bull might need some time to adjust.

After all, Red Bull F1 team lost both its former boss and its former chief engineer in the space of a year.

Christian Horner

Christian Horner was sacked, pretty much out of the blue, on July 9, 2025.

Red Bull made the announcement with the sort of no-frills, cold-ish, straight-to-the-point statement we’ve seen a million times before.

“Red Bull has released Christian Horner from his operational duties with effect from today and has appointed Laurent Mekies as CEO (chief executive) of Red Bull Racing,” the statement read.

The same statement also announced his replacement, Laurent Mekies, and was followed a few hours later by a comment from Max Verstappen’s manager, which was actually a quote from an interview.

Max Verstappen, Red Bull’s top racing driver, often comes across as a no-nonsense driver who doesn’t really leave much room for emotion, and it looks like his manager is on the smae page.

Speaking to a Dutch news outlet, he simply confirmed the team had been made aware of this decision prior to the announcement, and nothing changes because they’re still just focused on winning.
