China’s new innovative Maglev trains are faster than planes

China is testing high-speed and electromagnetic maglev trains that are potentially faster than planes.

Engineers at Donghu Laboratory in China just conducted a test of a new maglev train that’s capable of reaching 620MPH.

That’s faster than some commercial planes.

And there’s more good news, too.

These trains are becoming faster than planes

Maglev trains are already in service in certain parts of the globe, but they’re still (for the most part) slower than planes.

But that’s probably about to change.

Donghu Laboratory, a research facility in Hubei, China, has been testing trains that are capable of reaching a top speed of 620mph, equivalent to around 1,000km/h.

For reference, a Boeing 737 can ‘only’ reach a top speed 940km/h, while the Airbus A321 is even ‘slower’, with a top speed of 876KM/H.

Obviously, you can’t really use a train to travel from, say, Paris to Dubai, but these trains could potentially replace trains when the goal is to travel from A to B in large countries like the U.S. or China.

Maglev trains are a thing

The fact that these trains can reach these speeds is good news.

But there’s more good news because maglev trains aren’t vaporware – after all, they already exist, and they’re already in service.

China built one that can exceed 600 mph, and the fastest train in the world, also in China, uses maglev technology.

Maglev is short for ‘magnetic levitation’.

Magnetic levitation counteracts the effects of gravity to allow the train to glide on air and proper forward.

This also makes the train ride quieter, smoother, and faster.

While the maglev trains are already up and running, they’re still relatively rare.

But that’s clearly going to change very soon.
