Chevrolet overtakes Ford to become the number two US electric vehicle seller

In a battle that’s been raging for decades, the Chevrolet trio of Silverado, Blazer, and Equinox has moved out into the fast lane to overtake Ford as the second-best electric vehicle seller in the United States.

From the days when Chevy and Ford battled out with their ’50s Bel-Air and Thunderbird models, to the modern-day Silverado and F-150 bouts, these American giants have gone blow for blow.

But as car manufacturing has been injected with an electric buzz, the tides have turned in Chevy’s favour.

After years spent trying to catch up to Ford’s dominance, Chevrolet has now gone ahead in the EV sales charts in 2025, jumping into second place.

The first quarter of 2025 has proved to be a significant indicator of how the market has shifted, thanks to EVs and the demand for greener vehicles.

As usual, both Ford and Chevrolet have made great strides in pioneering this movement.

Specific models have proven to be much more popular this year, with Ford proving to be on the right track with its Mach-E range, seeing an increase in sales by 62 percent, while OG Mustangs dropped 34 percent.

Chevy saw models surge, too, as the Colorado put in a huge shift.

But General Motors has now revealed that the EV game was won by Chevrolet this quarter, selling 3,000 more EVs in the US compared to Ford.

Chevrolet

According to GM, Chevrolet became the ‘fastest growing domestic EV brand’ in the US, selling 37,000 units, compared to Ford’s 34,000.

Chevy models like the Silverado, Blazer, and Equinox have proved popular, as American tastes seem to be getting bigger and bigger.

Undoubtedly, Tesla maintained its podium position as it reportedly sold 128,100 electric vehicles in the US, nearly double that of Chevrolet and Ford combined.

Still, that actually marks a decline for Tesla.

Chevrolet

Overall, GM sold 67,000 EVs, meaning Chevy made up over half of the sales for the company, while Cadillac and GMC made up the rest.

With more models expected to join the electric vehicle movement alongside the Silverado, Blazer, and Equinox, such as the Corvette SUV, the future is buzzing for the American brand.
