Dealerships see all sorts of people walk through the doors each and every day.

From those who come prepared with the cash, to folks who are looking for a loan to help get their dream car.

And for those who fall into the latter category, it turns out there’s a telling gesture that will let you know your application hasn’t been a success.

There’s a secret salesman hand gesture to watch out for

Dalt Miller is a Toyota salesman at a car dealership in Indiana, and when it comes to loan approvals he knows a thing or two.

Miller, who posts on TikTok under the handle @daltmiller, recently shared the true meaning of a small hand gesture – and if you’ve ever tried to buy a car at a dealership, you may recognize it.

@daltmiller

Miller recently uploaded a clip to TikTok with the caption: “When a car salesman does this just KNOW you aren’t approved.” Ouch.

In the clip, he can be seen approaching the camera while he pulled a pained expression.

As he got nearer to the camera, he continued to look uncomfortable and then gently made a steeple gesture with his hand as he placed it down on the desk in front of him.

Subtle, right?

So subtle you might not even know if you’d ever seen it.

It turns out lots of people were familiar with it

But it turns out it was all too familiar for some TikTok users.

“Yes, when I see that hand I just get up,” said one follower.

Another commented: “Five fingers of sadness.”

“The steeple of denial,” a third joked.

Others said that seeing the gesture made them brace for the, ‘so here’s what we can do’ conversation that was bound to come next.

Even a fellow salesperson chipped in to confirm it was the truth.

“The universal hand sign,” she wrote. “I used to do that all the time, which meant, your time in my office is up.”

Miller isn’t the only salesperson to spill secrets over on TikTok, another dealership worker recently revealed which car is the hardest to sell, while another noted a strange phenomenon that happens with every customer who buys a Ford Raptor R truck.
