A Californian man paid $750 for an abandoned storage unit and its contents, and inside it he found a classic Volkswagen that he could sell for a tidy profit.

YouTuber Storage Auction Pirate wasn’t quite expecting to find a classic car in the unit, but the one they did find needed some repairs.

The YouTuber bought the car at an auction for various other storage units, some of which also contained cars.

The video provides an interesting glimpse into what some people keep inside their storage facilities.

Smashed up car turned out to be a Volkswagen Campervan

Having paid just $750 for the storage unit, what the YouTuber and his team found inside was a classic Volkswagen Campervan.

Also known as a ‘bug’, the car had some serious damage to the front-end indicating a heavy accident.

The front was badly smashed in, with the bumpers kept in the storage unit next to the camper.

The side of the campervan however was in good condition, having escaped the worst of the damage.

Despite the amount of damage it took, the interior of the Volkswagen is in pretty good condition.

The dashboard is complete, with all the gauges intact and the stick shifter and steering wheel are in place.

The living quarters section of the interior has survived the best, clearly benefiting from its storage.

Climbing into the VW did however reveal some more damage to it.

The rear window for example had taken a battering, potentially shattering when the vehicle was put into the storage unit.

There is a lot of junk stored in the car, such as old children’s toys and various other boxes.

A quick test of the transmission shows it does go through the gears, but clearly, the 1971 Campervan needs a lot of work.

The YouTuber speculates that the engine under the hood probably runs fine, and there are virtually no signs of rust.

What a new owner could do with this VW is another question.

There is a lot of potential in it, however, especially if the new owner could find a new front-end to replace the smashed original.
