Looking at the past few years, there has been a paradigm shift in how people choose their cars, but this case of a businessman who was hell-bent on converting his Rolls-Royce Ghost into an EV stands out.

Converting an internal combustion engine (ICE) — or gas car — often requires plenty of time, effort, and resources and is usually not worth it.

However, you can’t usually reason with certain car enthusiasts if they have already decided to pursue something like this.

The ‘not worth it’ factor increases even more when it’s a luxury car like a Rolls-Royce.

Meet Vincent Yu from British Columbia, Canada, who took up one of the most ambitious projects ever.

It might not sound like that big a deal, but the man almost gave up his life in the process of doing so.

Buckle up because this is certainly an interesting one.

It all started when Yu’s daughter refused to ride as a passenger in her father’s Rolls due to the environmental impact of gas-powered luxury vehicles.

That’s when he decided he would convert the Ghost into an all-electric luxury car.

This was back in 2022, meaning the electric Rolls-Royce Spectre would launch in two years, but that was too long for Yu to wait.

Yu’s journey toward converting his Ghost into a zero-emissions vehicle had him travel to several countries.

He visited the United States, Germany, and Japan just to source the right parts.

Moreover, it wasn’t as easy as he might have thought it would be.

Yu got so invested in the Rolls conversion that his wife and daughter moved out of the house indefinitely.

Although these were harsh times for the man, he never faltered.

He eventually had to even sell his family home to fund the project, which he was committed to.

Ultimately, he successfully built an electric Rolls-Royce Ghost with a Tesla electric motor and was proud of his work.

He also opened a shop called Mars Power in Canada to convert more gas cars into EVs.

If you’re wondering if he ever sorted his life out again — Yu and his family reportedly got back together a while later.

That was quite the journey for one car, but it seems the man was satisfied in the end.
