A Boeing 747 has been captured literally blowing away tourists on Maho beach.
The jumbo jet aircraft was filmed taking off from Maho Beach in St. Maarten.
Landing in St. Maarten is one of the world’s most beautiful and dramatic landings.
That’s because, as these beachgoers found out, the runway is just yards away from the beach itself.

Boeing 747 blows the crowd away – literally
The Boeing 747 jumbo jet is a regular feature on the Caribbean island of St. Maarten.
It is a particularly regular feature in the Dutch half of the island – because that’s where Princess Juliana International Airport is located.
And it’s the Dutch national carrier that flies frequently to the Caribbean paradise.
KLM regularly operates between Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam and St. Maarten.
But it’s the landing that is the most spectacular part of the experience.
In fact, only a road and a fence separate the main runway from Maho Beach.
As a result, some truly spectacular scenes of planes landing just a few feet overhead are a regular occurrence.
One video that has been going viral from St. Maarten has seen the Boeing 747 doing something slightly different.
During the clip – which can be seen above – the Boeing 747 is seen taxiing on the runway for takeoff.
Naturally, some beachgoers are pressed up against the fence to enjoy the view.
But the force of the engines is so strong that the wind produced knocks the beachgoers into the water!
Yes, seriously – even from a decent distance. That’s how powerful that wind is.
St. Maarten – a tale of two islands
St. Maarten is an island with a fascinating story and history.
Located in the north-east of the Caribbean, St. Maarten is part of the Leeward Islands of the Lesser Antilles.
Despite being known as ‘The Friendly Island’, it actually belongs to two different countries.
The northern half of the island is an overseas territory of the French Republic.
By contrast, the southern half of the island remains part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Both France and the Netherlands claimed the island for their own respective empires during the 1600s.
The Treaty of Concordia, signed in 1648, saw the two nations agree to share it.
Marigot is the name of the capital of the French side, called Saint Martin.
Philipsburg remains the capital of the more populated Dutch side, called Sint Maarten.
If you ever find yourself visiting Maho Beach on St. Maarten, stay well away from the fence!
