The Bavarian marque produces some of the most popular cars in the world.

Like others, the German marque has faced the potential of a major EV shift in the car industry.

But BMW refuses to back down, arguing that the combustion engine is crucial to the company.

BMW refuses to bend to full-EV trend

Like its rivals and fellow manufacturers, BMW has borne witness to a major shift in the car industry.

For the past few years, the move to electric vehicles has gathered serious momentum.

In truth, there have been few signs of the trend being bucked or reversed in any way.

And many brands decided to make dramatic shifts to match the public mood.

Dodge, for example, introduced an all-electric Daytona Charger – which didn’t exactly go well.

Other brands have also made lofty and extensive promises to completely shift to EV production.

In fact, most of those brands made those promises within remarkably short time frames.

Now, reversals in demand for full-on EVs have seen many brands backtrack on those lofty promises.

One brand not left with egg on its face, however, is BMW.

Brand insists that combustion engines will live on

Despite offering hybrid alternatives, BMW has never made lofty promises to shift its core focus.

In fact, BMW has been adamant that its S68 engine will still live on – albeit in different markets.

And the German giant has doubled down on keeping the combustion engine alive.

A senior BMW official recently had an interview with German publication Automobilwoche.

In said interview, the senior BMW official offered a fascinating insight into the brand’s mindset.

“The combustion engine is our foundation and will also finance our future business.”

Talk about an emphatic response.

BMW’s plant manager in Steyr, Austria added some further interesting comments.

Klaus von Moltke said that that the development of standard powertrains will continue.

Engineers will instead focus on making the current engine line-up compliant with Euro 7 regulations.

So, there you have it – petrol heads everywhere should rejoice.

Because BMW is as far away from giving up on combustion engines as ever.
