BMW has been secretly developing an EV prototype called ‘The Beast’ since 2018

There is a new all-electric BMW M series model in the works since 2018, and it’s aptly dubbed ‘The Beast’ simply because the automaker says it will be too hot to handle.

It’s no secret that the German automaker has been working on an M-series EV for a while now, but we got a sneak peek before the covers are pulled.

What’s more, it will be incredibly fast — we just don’t know how fast precisely.

The early testers were left speechless if that matters.

We know there’s a new electric BMW M3 set to launch soon, but how about a behind-the-scenes teasing?

Well, that’s precisely what the automaker did in its new series on YouTube.

These EVs will be built on the Neue Klasse platform, which happens to be a base for all upcoming BMW cars.

They look pretty wild, too.

Anyway, the star of today’s show is The Beast, which the company’s M division has been working on since 2018.

It all began when a team of engineers took an M2 and tried to electrify it.

After years of research and development, they now have something enthusiasts would call a ‘wild horse.’

And if you ask us, its ‘beastly’ moniker certainly makes sense.

It’s a wild horse because BMW M’s boss, Franciscus van Meel, says they are trying to tame it — all because it currently has a lot of raw power but not much control.

They, however, very well realize that it needs to be tamed — which makes it enticing for fans of the M-series.

Another interesting fact is that this upcoming EV is not the first car to be called ‘The Beast’ internally.

The first model to have that name was the E35 X5 Le Mans prototype — and it turned out pretty well.

Its follow up car — the BMW X5 M — became one of the highest-performance SUVs to ever hit the roads when it came out.

If the automaker manages to tame this new beast, it would heavily inspire the upcoming BMW M3 EV.

It will obviously be fast — even faster than its gas-powered counterpart.

While guessing the exact numbers is like shooting arrows in the dark, we all know a performance EV can outperform quite a lot of gas-powered cars.

The Tesla Cybertruck, while not being a great comparison, beating a Porsche 911 in a straight line proves that fact.

As of now, the upcoming M3 EV prototype makes somewhere near 1,341HP — but nobody knows how that might change after BMW tames its wild horse.

It’s expected to make a grand entrance in 2027, but we will likely get more sneak peeks until then.
