This Ferrari F40 restomod called the Alte Prestazioni was designed to be safer, not faster.

The idea behind this Ferrari F40 restomodWhat is a restomod?

Based on the iconic F40, the car ironically has the word ‘performance’ in the name, but performance, in this case, is enhanced with extra safety, not with more power.

It’s an unorthodox approach.

But – truth the be told – we can totally see the point.

The idea behind this Ferrari F40 restomod

Purists hate it when third-party companies modify Ferrari F40s but, to be fair, the reasoning behind this particular restomod is quite interesting.

Modified by Officine Fioravanti, the car is called Alte Prestazioni, Italian for ‘high performance’, but the first thing we should point out is this F40 is not more powerful than the factory model.

It still has the same 2.9-liter V8, producing 417BHP and giving the car a 0-62mph time of about 4.1 seconds.

The problem, according to Officine Fioravanti, is the F40 is unsafe and uncontrollable by today’s standards.

So, in order to make it a bit easier to control, they just changed the suspension and gave it carbon ceramic discs.

They also fitted new hubs for better cooling of the rotors, and a front lifter to deal with bumps and curbs.

The price hasn’t been revealed, but we expect it to be extremely expensive.

What is a restomod?

Restomod is portmanteau between the words ‘restoration’ and ‘modifications/modified’.

A restomod is a car that’s been restored, but also modified in the process.

This is the sort of thing that car people either love or hate.

Love, because sometimes they look great, such as the $1 million Porsche 911 restomod or the Mazda Miata-inspired, Italian-built Gorgona sportscar.

But also hate, because some people believe you should never mess with the original design.

Having said that, just like with this Ferrari, a restomod is often just an attempt at making a beautiful but technologically outdated car more suitable for modern use.
