A rare gemWhy this Dodge is so rare

This little-known gem is an icon from the 1970s, but it doesn’t really get the same credit as other similar vehicles.

All things considered, the car was still in relatively good condition.

Mind you, fixing it might be difficult.

A rare gem

A YouTuber and barn find hunter who goes by Auto Archeology found a 1978 Dodge Magnum Force GT in a garage in Michigan.

The car was in decent shape, apart from the inevitable dust and saggy tires.

The problem is that fixing this car could potentially be problematic.

It’s a rare model, which means finding suitable components might be difficult.

On the upside, old cars lend themselves well to DIY repairs. And even though this car is rare, it does share some components with other, more popular models.

The truth is, we don’t even know how many Magnum Force GTs still exist, but we’re willing to bet the answer to that question is probably not a lot.

Why this Dodge is so rare

Automakers regularly repurpose old names for new cars, they do it all the time.

For example, Dodge first introduced the Magnum as an old-school coupe in the 1970s and 1980s.

It didn’t exactly fly off the shelves, and so Dodge pulled the plug in the late 1980s and forgot all about it for over a decade.

In 2005, the Magnum name was revived, but this time they used for a massive station wagon based on the Chrysler 300 and with several bits borrowed from the Mercedes-Benz E-Class.

Dodge also did something similar with the Charger.

First unveiled in 1966, Dodge produced four generations in 21 years, before discontinuing production in 1987.

They then reintroduced the Charger almost 20 years later, in 2006, but turned it into a four-door sedan rather than a two-door coupe.

Then Dodge changed the shape once again with the new two-door electric model, that’s the one with the fake soundtrack.

Maybe next time we’re going to see a Dodge Magnum that’s actually an SUV.
