The Aston Martin Valkyrie has just broken the Silverstone lap record by 10 seconds to become the fastest road-legal production car on the track.
The Silverstone Circuit has long been the favorite spot for performance cars to test their capabilities.
And now the Valkyrie has not only broken the lap record, but absolutely smashed it.
With a 1:56:42 time around the 3.661-mile Grand Prix circuit, the Valkyrie stole the record from a Porsche 911 GT2 RS.

Valkyrie shatters lap record
Many automakers choose Silverstone because it feels like home, which might be why Lamborghini once celebrated its birthday there with 382 supercars.
And with it being home to the British Grand Prix, it only seems fitting that the British automaker now holds the production car speed record.
So, how did it do it?
The Aston Martin Valkyrie posted a lap time of 1:56:42 with Le Mans 24 Hours champion Darren Turner at the helm.
Now, this was already an impressive feat because this is the first sub-two-minute record for any production car in Silverstone’s history.
What’s more interesting is that a Porsche 992 GT2 RS modified by Manthley held the previous record.
That’s right — it wasn’t even stock.
Although comparing the Porsche with the track-focused Valkyrie is somewhat unfair, the 10-second gap makes you wonder.
Aston Martin Valkyrie – The fastest production car at Silverstone
Even if we look past the road-legal models, the Aston was still two seconds quicker than a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 Evo and only one second behind a Ferrari 488 GTE Evo.
All this performance comes from a 6.5-liter naturally-aspirated V12 hybrid powerhouse that sends out a whopping 1,140bhp.
As capable as it is, this powertrain also makes the hypercar an expensive machine to maintain.
The only downside about the Valkyrie’s achievement was that Aston didn’t release a full clip of the hypercar beating the record.
Instead, we got an edited promo-like showcase of the Valkyrie driving on public roads before briefly entering the track.
That was likely to highlight that it’s meant for the roads and track both, but you get the point.
This might also be the reason why F1 star Fernando Alonso was one of its first customers.
