A driver out in California was left impressed after he spotted a Tesla Semi out on the roads making its way quickly and smoothly through traffic.

Tesla first unveiled two concept all-electric semi trucks back in 2017 with the promise that they would cost a lot less to run than typical diesel trucks.

In keeping with other Tesla vehicles, the truck sports slightly futuristic-looking design.

And is certainly a bit of an attention-grabber when seen out on the roads, like this one.

The Tesla Semi hopes to be the ‘future’ of trucking

Tesla began taking orders for the EV in 2022, with PepsiCo quickly signing up as its first customer.

In December 2022, PepsiCo received the first deliveries of its Tesla Semi.

Since then it seems that Walmart has also signed up for the EV trucks.

And it’s not difficult to see why big brands might be attracted to the Tesla trucks.

“More powerful, more efficient and fully electric. Semi is the future of electric trucking,” the carmaker promises.

The trucks offer less than two kilowatt-hour per mile of energy consumption and have a range of around 500 miles.

Tesla says that using one of its EV trucks over a traditional diesel vehicle means ‘operators can see estimated fuel savings of up to $150,000 within their first three years of ownership’. Impressive stuff.

They’re also pretty quick – and can do 0-60mph in just 20 seconds, even when carrying a full-load.

The EVs are able to ‘maintain highway-level speeds even up steep grades’, according to Tesla.

The speed of the Semi is perfectly highlighted in this clip shared by  X user @TeslaShawn back in August 2023.

He was out in Sacramento, California, when he came across a PepsiCo branded Tesla Semi.

“Tesla Semi. This makes me wanna get my Class A again lol,” he wrote alongside the clip.

A follower responded to the post to say they ‘couldn’t wait’ to see more on the roads to which he replied: “It’s an exciting time.”

And it seems as though there might not be too long to wait until that’s a reality with Tesla hoping to put Semis into volume production in 2026.
