An all-new Ford Ranger plug-in hybrid is on the way, and the best part is that it’ll be competitively priced.

The truck will make its debut in Australia, and Ford recently released all the main details of the new model after a long wait.

Those details are very welcome, as the automaker first announced the new truck back in September 2023.

The hybrid Ranger will also have a record payload for the model, making it an even more attractive option for consumers.

The new hybrid will have a very competitive price

One of the aspects of the new Ranger hybrid that stands out the most is its price.

Ford states that the new truck will start at AUD 71,990, which is roughly USD 45,000.

That’s just above the current $38,810 starting price of the base Ford F-150 in North America.

The payload capacity is also a record for the model and segment.

The manufacturer claims that the new Ranger has a capacity of 2,145LBS.

Meanwhile, the maximum towing capacity for the truck remains unchanged at 7,716LBS.

The retail price is well below $50,000, making it affordable, too.

This all highlights just what makes the Ranger such a popular pickup truck in Australia.

The Ranger is a very popular truck in Australia

Europe and Australia are the two strongest markets for the Ranger, but it does particularly well in the latter.

In 2024, the Blue Oval sold 63,000 units of the Ranger Ute in Australia.

That ensured it remained the country’s best-selling car, beating the Toyota RAV4, which sold 59,000 units.

Ford states there will be four variants when the new hybrid pickup truck launches later in 2025.

The range will include the XLT, Sport, Wildtrack, and Stormtrak, which will be a special launch edition.

However, the Ranger will have stiff competition, with the BYD Shark 6 from China providing an attractive alternative.

The plug-in Shark 6 currently retails at AUD 57,900, which is much cheaper than the Ford’s current price tag.

That could make things quite tricky for the Blue Oval.

Thanks to its larger battery capacity, the BYD Shark 6’s electric-only range is also greater than that of the Ranger.

The Blue Oval truck has 30 miles of electric range, but the BYD trounces it with 62 miles.

It’ll be fascinating to see the sales figures for both trucks once they’re on the market.
