A man thought a WeBuyAnyCar employee was ‘joking’ after taking a $69,896 Tesla Model Y for valuation – he couldn’t believe the amount he was offered.

WeBuyAnyCar does what it says on the tin and will take anything from supercars to your crustiest old bangers. But you’ll have to expect to be disappointed when it comes to how much they offer for them.

One man decided he was going to ask the car buyers for a quote on his $69,896 Tesla Model Y. He was probably expecting a little less than that, but was left flabbergasted when he discovered the quote.

The fact is, EVs are pretty well known for immediately depreciating in value the second you drive them off the lot, and the demand for Teslas is at an all-time low. So it turns out it was a bit of a recipe for disaster.

It doesn’t matter what kind of car you’re selling, an SUV, supercar, standard five-door gas-powered, or even an EV, WeBuyAnyCar does exactly what it says on the tin and will give people money for literally every car.

While this is a handy way to get a quick quote for a car, it’s exactly that – a quick quote. It won’t be the best offer for your beloved car – you’ll need to shop around for offers a bit.

However, this Tesla Model Y driver took his EV to be valued wasn’t quite expecting the quote he got. But when you think about it, it’s no surprise that he felt the WeBuyAnyCar employee was ‘joking’.

EVs depreciate quickly

Unfortunately for EV drivers, the vehicles immediately start depreciating in value the second you leave the lot after paying for it.

So in the case of the Tesla Model Y, even though he paid $69,896 for it, he wouldn’t get that much when he sold it.

Some EVs have been known to depreciate up to 50 percent, which is higher than a car with an internal combustion engine, so you have to expect that if you have an EV, it won’t do well on the second-hand market.

The EV owner was offered just $28,029 for his Model Y, and considering he paid almost $70,000 for it, it’s easy to see why he thought that the WeBuyAnyCar employee was ‘joking’.

Tesla had a rough quarter, and it seems like the automaker is changing its focus to the Tesla Diner, Optimus Robot, and even the robotaxis. There’s hardly a demand for new Tesla EVs, let alone second-hand ones.

At least he’d get $28K for it. That’s better than nothing.
