YouTuber Tyler Hoover, of Hoovies Garage, got quite the shock when he took his secondhand car into the mechanics for a look-over.

The mechanic inspecting his vehicle? None other than fellow YouTuber, The Car Wizard.

And as for the Mercedes-Benz EQS EV, there was a laundry list of quality issues to go through.

Where do all inspections start? By looking underneath the hood, right?

Well, when it came time to do so with this Mercedes-Benz EQS EV, the duo had a hard time finding the hood latch.

“You have to pull a flap down to see it,” Hoover said.

Not a great start.

And the issues didn’t end there.

“There’s no safety, there’s no springs, and there’s no prop rod either,” Hoover continued.

“They didn’t even finish painting this,” the Car Wizard remarked.

They hadn’t even gotten into the nitty gritty yet.

Hoover had already noticed some problems, such as door panels that felt a little loose.

But he was curious to see if the issues went deeper into the car.

The Car Wizard found a few when he took a look.

A highway test found that a lack of a battery pre-heater had led to around 20 percent range loss in colder climates.

There was minimal finish underneath the hood, with the bottom of the hood left unpainted.

Things weren’t helped by the ‘horrendous’ depreciation of the car.

“This thing was $118,000 new,” Hoover said.

“I bought it for $34k with 23,000 miles on it. It’s not a salvage title.”

A car seeing a drop of $80k within three years of it being released isn’t good, you don’t need to be a car expert to know that.

This is a significant drop, but there are EVs that have seen larger depreciations.

One study found that the Tesla Model S’s value had declined by 89.75 percent between 2015 and 2025.

Only time will tell how the EQS fairs within a decade of its release.

Mechanics see a lot of shocking things in their line of work

Mechanics will see a lot of different cars with varying issues over their careers.

But even the most seasoned mechanics can be taken by surprise.

One was left scratching his head when he saw this Ford Ranger with a very unusual feature.

The Car Wizard himself has seen his fair share of peculiar car situations.

He’d previously fixed a 2013 Toyota Avalon with a $10 part – after four different dealerships had been left stumped by its issues.

He also took on a Chevrolet Malibu that was considered ‘possessed’ by its owner, and a 2002 Mercedes E320 that had fallen victim to coffee spills.
