This Chinese sedan just lapped the Nürburgring faster than a Rimac Nevera

The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra electric sedan has just smashed a Nürburgring lap record, doing the famous circuit even faster than the Rimac Nevera EV.

Xiaomi, most known for its smartphones, is officially branching into automobiles with the SU7.

The SU7 Ultra is the high-performance version of the electric SU7 sedan.

And it’s showing the world just how far Chinese manufacturers have come in the electric development race.

In 2024, a prototype lapped the circuit with a time of 6 minutes and 46.8 seconds.

But Xiaomi had always promised they would return with a production-ready car that customers could buy.

The Chinese manufacturer posted raw, uncut footage of the lap on YouTube, and it made for some impressive viewing.

The production ready car lapped the circuit with a time of 7 minutes and 4.957 seconds.

This is faster than the Porsche Taycan Turbo GT by just three seconds.

It is also faster than the Rimac Nevera, the fabled Croatian electric hypercar.

Xiamoi’s SU7 Ultra lapped the circuit just a second faster than the Rimac.

That has given the SU7 Ultra the production EV record at the circuit, which is hugely impressive.

Xiaomi was overjoyed at the feat, and so it should be.

While it currently holds the production electric car record, the outright production car record at the ‘Ring looks safe for now.

That is currently held by the Mercedes-AMG ONE, with its 6-minute 29-second lap time from 2024.

Of course, the outright lap record of the circuit is held by a car that nothing can beat right now.

That is, of course, the Porsche 919 Hybrid Evo, which lapped the circuit in 5 minutes, 19.55 seconds.

But given how fast Chinese cars are becoming, who’s to say that record won’t fall in the future?

The top speed of 215mph from the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra also makes it the fastest production sedan in the world, with gas or electric power.

It’s a big day for Xiaomi.
