An American father-and-son mechanic team may have just solved one of the most unusual issues owners face with their Ford F-150 pickup truck.

The two, who work at Royalty Auto Service, posted their fix for a 2019 Ford F-150 on the shop’s TikTok page -@royaltyautoservice.

Located in Camden County, Georgia, what started as a misfire in the F-150’s fourth cylinder turned out to be an issue that owners of other trucks from different manufacturers were also facing.

The scope of the issues suggests that it might be much more common than we first realized.

The issue is traced to the F-150’s fourth cylinder

The two mechanics state that there is a misfire within the Ford pickup truck’s fourth cylinder.

The father says: “This is the Power Balance test on the Ford software. [also used on Ford’s cars]”

A look at some of the data from the cylinders reveals that the fourth one is completely dead.

The mechanics then show us the linear progression of a healthy injector process compared to one that isn’t healthy, as in the fourth cylinder.

The injector failed to open the fourth cylinder, and a closer look at the data shows that one of the injectors on the truck is physically stuck.

Replacing the injector fixes the issue. After that, the truck simply roars back into life with a healthy fourth cylinder.

Other F-150 owners reported the same issue

While it might sound rare, the TikTok video revealed the issue is more common than you’d think.

A lot of users responded to the video, sharing their own experiences of the injector problem.

One of them didn’t own a Ford F-150, but a 2006 Nissan Frontier instead.

The issue is also quite commonplace in Ford F-150s.

With how often F-150s are used in work forces, low compression in the cylinders can regularly occur thanks to how much the mechanical components are overworked.

Scanners can help to detect any issues, reading engine codes and pinpointing the exact cylinder that has a problem.

You can then inspect things such as the spark plugs or ignition coils yourself.

This will then help you narrow down the problem further.
