Man who own’s the first Tesla Cybertruck in the UK reveals the changes he’s made to try and make it legal

The man who imported the first Tesla Cybertruck in the UK is having a nightmare because making it road legal in the UK is taking a lot longer than anticipated.

He’s facing all kinds of hurdles in getting it registered.

There’s a very long list of issues with the truck.

But the good news is he’s now making fast progress.

The changes he’s made so far

Yianni Charalambous, the first Tesla Cybertruck owner in the UK, is documenting his ‘predicament’ on his Yiannimize YouTube channel.

Yianni shared the list of modifications required, and it’s a fruit salad of legal requirements you can’t really ignore.

He began by blacking out the indicators on the side so you don’t actually see the side repeaters on at all times, because they do stay on in the US, but that’s not allowed in the UK.

After that, he fitted orange indicators at the front, a legal requirement in the UK, as well as on the wing mirrors, also a legal requirement.

The Cybertruck’s indicators flash up red, when the legal requirement in the UK is that they are amber.

This is to distinguish it from the brake light, which is also red.

But that’s no longer an issue, but they changed that too, and they also added a fog light.

Is Cybertruck ever coming to Europe/UK?

Yiannimize

One year after the unveil, Cybertruck is still not available in Europe unless you import it privately.

It looks like that’s not going to change in the near future and it’s mostly because of the truck’s unique design.

There have been calls for an international version but, so far, European drivers have only been able to see the Cybertruck in person during the ‘world tour’ that Tesla did earlier this year.

There are several road legal Cybertrucks available for sale in the European continent, but they’re all imported independently, and they all cost a fortune.

Depending on where you live, you might be able to buy a Cybertruck in Europe, and maybe even get it registered, but it doesn’t look like Cybertruck will be available as anything other than an overpriced, overcomplicated import in the near future.
