A brand-new 2025 BMW M5 has been pitted against its commonplace brand competitor, the Mercedes AMG, in a quarter-mile drag race, and the results are frightening.
The BMW M5 xDrive plug-in hybrid electric is back and bustier than ever, packing a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 bosom in its snug hood.
The Mercedes AMG C63 S is not one to lie down without a fight though, and packs quite a punch off the start line too with 1020Nm of torque.
But if you thought that these two iconic brands would be evenly matched, well, racers, start your engines, and may the best drag queen win!

BMW M5 obliterates Mercedes AMG in dead-start drag race
We all love a good drag race when fresh cars come out, serving as a staple method of gauging speed and power for sports cars. If power and muscle are more your speed, maybe some good old tug-of-war action is better.
Still, the seventh generation of BMW M5 is looking to get the boys in blue back on their throne of road-worthy speedsters, and YouTube account Cars.co.za has put it through its paces against a seriously quick C63 S.
The cars both has launch control systems activated as Jacob Moshokoa sat in the M5 and Ashley Oldfield in the C63 respectively.
Both cars started the first heat with a dead start, and as the lights went out and the EVs were bolted into action, the first couple of yards appeared to be seriously competitive.
However, as third gear kicked in the BMW found its feet and ripped away.
Completing the quarter-mile drag race in 11.17, the M5 was crowned victorious, leaving two car lengths between itself and the Merc.
The AMG came across at 11.69 seconds.
It’s no slouch, but it’s not a speed demon either.
BMW is back to its best on the race track
There was a lot of concerns about the new M5 as BMW announced that it weighs significantly more than its predecessors, but its raw power appears to be quite significant.
The car is also lightning quick from a rolling start, and as you can imagine, a second drag race ended equally as dominant with the BMW kicking out after third gear.
It’s looking good for BMW this year, as the additional weight hasn’t slowed them down.
Maybe Mercedes needs to run its much more powerful AMG GT63 in the next race.
