One Reddit user has shared an image of a Porsche 911 wrapped in plastic during a flood.

It might look like a way to deliver an OTT birthday present.

However, it’s actually proven to provide successful protection for some car owners.

The internet, as always, has been left divided.

Said to prevent any damage caused by water in a flooded parking lot, the image shows a Porsche 911 wrapped in plastic that’s knotted on top.

This sparked a colorful debate on Reddit via carsindia with the question: “Can Wrapping your car like this potentially save it from flood damage?”

Some Redditors supported the idea, with one saying: “Yes. It needs to be wrapped from the bottom up with a proper seal on the top. That keeps water out.”

Another echoed that sentiment: “It’s genius. I don’t see any downside of this as long as it’s completely sealed and you are not stupid enough to remote start it.”

Others had a lighthearted take: “No, don’t do this, the car will die of suffocation,” quipped one Redditor.

While a third take was one of skepticism.

“Won’t this cause the car to float more easily during floods?’ read one comment.

Another worried about invalidating insurance: “By wrapping the car in plastic like this, if any damage occurs, you won’t receive a single penny from insurance.”

“Flood water will rip that into pieces,” said a third.

Floods can cause significant damage to your car, affecting the engine, gearbox, electronics, and upholstery of the car

Worse still, saltwater is corrosive, and leaving electric vehicles submerged in it could lead to the large lithium-ion batteries in production EVs short-circuiting and catching fire.

This low-mile Ford Thunderbird discovered among a collection hit by the Florida hurricane last month is proof cars and hurricanes aren’t a good combo.

That being said, the owner who wrapped his prized Chevrolet Corvette to protect it from Hurricane Milton claims it was a success.

Car owner and TkToker, gucci_lemon_reloaded, wrapped his Corvette in a plastic sheet to protect it from the Category 3 hurricane.

Located in Palm Beach, Florida, US, he was naturally worried about the hurricane damaging his Chevrolet Corvette.

His plan consisted of getting an industrial-grade sheet of plastic to use as a car wrap, covering the ground to reverse over it, and then covering the Chevrolet Corvette.

He later revealed his car was in perfect condition and he can be seen at the end tearing down the road in the $68,000 car.

However, he had explained that he was actually ‘nine miles from the water’.

“It doesn’t really make sense for us to evacuate,” he said.

“So, in terms of floating away, I’m not really worried about that, it’s going to be in a garage with maybe two feet of water, max, cos we’re only dealing with rainwater, not really a storm surge.”
