Pontiac introduced the Firebird back in 1967 with a production run that lasted until 2002.

In 1968, the Firebird’s engine had been revised, with customers able to choose between a 4.1 liter or a 5.7 liter.

This example, which has recently resurfaced on eBay, came with a 5.7 liter automatic powertrain, that it has held onto all these years.

Decades on from the launch, Firebirds remain popular and desirable cars – particularly if you can get your hands on an older model such as this one-owner 1978 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, or this rare 1970s example that is one of just 3,196 units from that year.

The 1968 model that has been listed on eBay by seller camillalsafa_0 isn’t quite as rare, but would still make a neat restoration project for the right person.

The seller doesn’t detail how long the car has been parked, but judging by its condition it seems likely it’s spent a decent chunk of time off the road.

This Firebird has a bit of an interesting history behind it, having previously belonged to famed American architect and designer Euine Fay Jones, who designed the Thorncrown Chapel in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, and the Mildred B. Cooper Memorial Chapel in Bella Vista.

However, considering the car’s condition – and the fact there are only 46,000 miles on the clock – it seems as though Jones didn’t use the car an awful lot, and it’s now in need of a full restoration.

It’s unclear if the Firebird’s original powertrain still starts and runs, but the seller says the car is ‘solid’ and comes with original leather interiors as well as ‘lots of new parts go with it’.

The listing goes on to say the bodywork is mostly rust-free apart from a patch on the corner of the dash.

Here’s hoping it’s snapped up by someone who can get it back to its former glory.
